Calling All Registered East Lyme Democrats! (was 7 pm, moved to 6 pm due to a Zoning Mtg.)
Please come vote on our slate of candidates for local office, Boards & Commissions. During Presidential elections we hear a lot about the Iowa caucuses… this year, check out yours!
What is a Caucus? A caucus is a meeting of members of a particular political party at which candidates are selected or policy is decided.
Who can vote in a Caucus? Party affiliation is required for CT caucus voting, meaning only REGISTERED DEMS can cast a ballot (or raise their hand, as the case may be). However, unaffiliated residents may be *nominated* by a Democrat at the caucus and— if advanced— be included on the Democratic slate. Remember, you can’t vote by absentee ballot in a caucus, so mark your calendar now so you remember to show up.
What can I expect? The process will be explained at the start of the evening but caucuses are different than November voting. There will be a slate already prepared & introduced by the Governance Committee but that does not preclude nominations of new people from the floor. You can expect to stay roughly an hour (maybe less), to learn something new, and maybe see old friends or make a new one. And you can expect to feel good for having done your part in a key but not so recognized part of the electoral process.
Note: this ‘third Thursday’ special event replaces the usual fourth Thur DTC monthly mtg.
