A Discussion on Immigration in the United States

The Democratic Town Committee will host a discussion on Immigration to the United States. Featured guests include Attorney Joseph B. De Mott, Immigration Lawyer and Esteban Garcia, who will describe his firsthand experience. Zoom info follows at the end of the event description.

Attorney Joseph De Mott of San Antonio, Texas, practiced Immigration Law for 43 years. His firm began as a small two-person operation and grew to a large office with satellite locations. Mr. De Mott graduated from the University of Nebraska Law School. Mr. De Mott’s life mission is to build community one person, one family, one business at a time.

Esteban Garcia serves as the co-chair of the Dreamers Action Alliance at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) and is a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Council. Some of Esteban’s accomplishments at SCSU include partnering with immigrant rights groups to deliver UndocuPeer training sessions for Faculty, Staff, and Student Leaders; Creating an extensive website that has been a model for other institutions in Connecticut; Developing a deportation protocol to assist students and their family members; Hosting an educators conference attended by more than 100 K-12 and Higher Education professionals; And presenting at several regional and national conferences. A Native of Colombia, Esteban came to the US after graduating high school at age 16. On a local level, Esteban serves as the Director of Finance for the Southeastern Connecticut Organization for Racial Equity (SCORE), and serves on the East Lyme Public Schools Districtwide Committee on Diversity and Inclusion. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut, and a MBA from the New England College of Business.
