Community Conversation on Ranked Choice Voting with Jonathan Perloe

Ranked Choice Voting is an election reform that’s getting a lot of attention. It was recommended by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as a strategy for achieving equality of voice and representation in its report, Reinventing American Democracy for the 21st Century. RCV gives voters more choice and solves the problems of spoiler candidates, vote splitting and wasted votes.

We're partnering with the Old Lyme Democratic Town Committee to host Jonathan Perloe for a Community Conversation about RCV via a Zoom.

Jonathan is a co-founder of Voter Choice Connecticut, the volunteer-led grassroots organization advocating for the use of Ranked Choice Voting in Connecticut elections. In 2019, they succeeded in getting HB-5820,An Act Establishing a Task Force to Study Ranked Choice Voting, passed in the House. This year the study bill, HB-5884, was again introduced in committee, with more than 35 sponsors and co-sponsors.

Following the 2016 election, Jonathan co-led the successful grassroots effort to get CT to join the National Popular Vote Compact, and was actively involved in last year’s effort to expand absentee ballot voting to all voters. In his day job, he is director of communications for CT Against Gun Violence.

Jonathan will talk about why RCV is a much-needed election reform and let us know how we can support their efforts.
